Final Cut adds Live Multicam for iPad via new Final Cut Camera app & AI features for Mac
Final Cut Pro has launched its next update for iPadOS called 'Final Cut 2', which introduces a Live Multicam feature. This allows up to four iPhone or iPad cameras to connect and preview at the same time using the recently launched Final Cut Camera, effectively turning the iPad into a multicam production studio. The new companion app enables the wireless connection of the phones and tablets, offering a real-time "director's view" on connected devices. Directors can remotely control video angles and adjust exposure, white balance, and focus settings. It's worth mentioning that the Final Cut Camera app isn't yet available on the Apple App Store, but it will be released for free later this spring.
The software ensures smooth production and editing workflows by seamlessly syncing each Live Multicam angle. It also supports external project editing, allowing users to edit projects directly from an external drive via the iPad Pro's Thunderbolt connection, which enables faster data transfer.
The Mac version of Final Cut Pro has also been updated with a focus on AI. Users can now adjust colors, color balance, contrast, and brightness all at once. The new AI-powered feature, Smooth Slo-Mo, generates and blends video frames to deliver high-quality slow-motion effects. The timeline in Final Cut Pro for Mac has been revamped for a more intuitive user experience, and AI-powered features have been added to automate tasks such as color correction and slow-motion effect creation.
