TUXEDO updates its Linux-based OS with KDE Plasma 6 and enhanced visual features
TUXEDO, the German computer manufacturer recognized for its Linux-based laptops and desktop PCs, has announced an update to TUXEDO OS, its operating system built on Ubuntu and KDE Plasma. This update introduces KDE Plasma 6, following rigorous testing by the TUXEDO team.
The most significant technical shift in Plasma 6 is the default use of Wayland as the display server, replacing the previous X11 display server. This change is accompanied by partial support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) in the standard Wayland session, allowing for more vibrant and intense colors in games, videos, and visual creations on HDR-compatible monitors and supported software. Users can now assign a unique ICC profile for each screen, and Plasma will adjust colors accordingly. However, applications remain restricted to the sRGB color space, with plans to expand the range of supported color spaces in the near future.
Another notable feature of KDE Plasma 6 is the reintroduction of the desktop cube. This feature allows users to rotate the desktop as a cube, a visual spectacle often used to impress Windows users!
TUXEDO OS comes pre-installed on the majority of TUXEDO computers. However, for those wishing to install the operating system on their existing Linux laptop or desktop, it is available for download from the TUXEDO website.
