Netflix reportedly spent over $100 million for access to Facebook users' private data

According to some court documents from last year, Netflix reportedly spent over $100 million to gain access to Facebook private user data, including personal messages. The deal required Netflix to supply Facebook with bi-weekly updates on recommendation sends and recipient clicks.

In 2011, Netflix started integrating Facebook to share user data globally and lobbied Congress for data sharing in the United States. By 2013, Netflix secured "Facebook Extended API" agreements, which included access to Facebook users' private messages. In August of the same year, Facebook gave Netflix access to its "Titan API," enabling the streaming service to access both app and non-app friends of Facebook users. Reed Hastings, Netflix's CEO at the time, managed the relationship while sitting on Facebook's board.

Netflix increased its Facebook advertising expenditure to about $150 million annually by the start of 2019. This development has raised concerns about privacy and data protection due to data-sharing agreements between tech firms.

Not sure if I'm more annoyed at Netflix for buying it or Facebook for selling it.

you wouldn't believe the budget the NSA gave up to maintain its database and transferred to Amazon, Facebook and Google over the course of 201x.
