Kodi 21.0 “Omega” released with FFmpeg 6, Dolby Vision conversion, HiDPI support, and more

Kodi, the open source entertainment center, has unveiled its latest version 21.0 “Omega”. This update introduces FFmpeg 6 and Dolby Vision on-the-fly profile conversion, enabling users to modify less compatible DV profile types to more supported ones.

In addition, Kodi 21.0 has implemented native window displays for Apple macOS, including support for HiDPI (retina) displays. The update also integrates DXVA video super resolution upscaler for Windows users.

In terms of compatibility, Kodi has broadened its reach with a new port for LG webOS TVs, allowing the platform to run natively on more devices.

For iOS and macOS users, Kodi 21.0 introduces speech recognition and microphone usage description. The update also enhances controller configuration for games, with a new in-game window that displays the game port to which each player's controller is connected.

While many of the changes in Kodi 21.0 are under the hood and may not be immediately visible to users, they collectively enhance the stability, performance, and safety of the platform.
