Instapaper 8.6 brings Summaries, custom article actions, and an official Obsidian plugin
Instapaper has recently rolled out version 8.6 for iOS and macOS users, introducing new features such as summaries, custom article actions, and Obsidian integration.
The new Summaries feature offers an overview of the current article, along with a list of Summary Highlights that point out the most significant sentences in the article. Users can tap on these highlights to be directed to the corresponding part of the article and, if desired, highlight or note the summary highlight. A toggle feature is also available to show all Summary Highlights in context while reading. Free users are limited to 5 summaries per month, whereas Instapaper Premium users can enjoy unlimited summaries and automatic syncing of Summary Highlights to their device.
The update also allows users to customize toolbar actions in the article view. By long pressing an icon, users can replace it with a custom action, like text-to-speech, or view notes.
Notably, Instapaper 8.6 includes an official Obsidian plugin, allowing users to sync all their highlights and notes to Obsidian. The plugin can be activated by searching for 'Instapaper' in Obsidian plugins.
Additional features and improvements include support for iOS default web browser for opening links and an option to remove the “via Instapaper” attribution when sharing articles, among others.
