Google One discontinues VPN service due to low user engagement

Google has reportedly discontinued its VPN feature within its cloud storage service, Google One. The service was initially available to subscribers with plans that included 2TB or more of cloud storage since October 2020. The decision to discontinue the VPN service was due to low user engagement, according to 9to5Google.

Subscribers were informed via email that the VPN service would cease to operate later in the year, although no specific date was provided. A Google spokesperson attributed the decision to low usage rates, signaling a shift towards focusing on more popular features within Google One.

However, the built-in VPN service will still be accessible to users of Pixel 7 smartphones and newer models at no additional cost. Google Fi Wireless service subscribers will also continue to have access to a VPN feature. And although there's still no clear date for when the service will cease to be available, you can always check out our wide range of VPN Services, where you'll find some popular options like Proton VPN, OpenVPN Connect or Mullvad.

Google having a VPN has the same feel as Facebook or Tiktok having their own VPN.

yeah, its not for actual privacy. it is to allow you to torrent without your ISP seeing it and shutting down your internet.

Gee, I wonder why people didn't want to use a VPN by the largest ads & data seller out there.

Not surprising. Normies who rely on Google for everything don't know or care about privacy. And those who do care about privacy would never trust Google.

this opinion is cynical, and also how many "normies" are using over 2T cloud storage? As a former GoogleFi user, it was a decent service, and I appreciated how many foreign countries it functioned in. While other plane passengers were puzzling over what SIM card to get, my phone just worked.

It might be cynical, but it's not wrong.....
