Ecosia launches new eco-friendly web browser, offering a sustainable alternative to Chrome
The environmentally focused and climate-friendly search engine, Ecosia, has recently launched its new Ecosia Browser offering a shiny alternative to the dominance of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox. The browser boasts customizable features, an AI Chat feature, and an inbuilt ad-blocker, reportedly loading web pages up to three times faster. Ecosia's unique selling point is its dedication to environmental sustainability, funding global tree-plantation projects through ad revenue, a model similar to its original search engine.
The browser incorporates eco-centric features such as a green leaf icon for environmentally friendly websites and climate pledge ratings for popular companies. It also provides sponsored shopping links from various brands, allowing users to personalize their home page, use dark mode, import settings, and select plantation project images as wallpaper. The browser operates on solar power, aiming to generate 25Wh of renewable energy per user each day, sufficient to power a light bulb for three hours.
The Ecosia browser is now available for download for those interesed on an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional web browsing. You can check the full release notes here!

Ok experience, nice look, the AI bot is powered by open AI.
I wonder if this is actually a new browser or yet another Chromium reskin. Either way, there is no version available for Linux. You'd think with claiming to care about the environment, that they'd make their browser run on a light-weight OS that is capable of running on older hardware.....
It's Chromium based.

Not surprising. I guess us Linux users won't be missing much, if anything, then.

Never mind that, the AI chat feature goes against "caring about the environment" by itself, what with all the processing power it uses, not to mention the astronomical amount of water used to cool the datacenter.

I didn't consider that because I've been never minding the AI bullcrap since it's inception.....
