Zorin OS 17.1 released with enhanced Windows app support and new Education edition

Zorin OS, the Linux distribution known for its user-friendliness and privacy protection, has unveiled its 17.1 version, following the release of its major 17 version a few months ago.

A notable addition to this release is the enhanced support for Windows apps. The Zorin team has broadened the built-in database to identify installer files for various popular Windows apps and games, now supporting over 100 apps. The new system offers customized recommendations for alternatives to sideloading Windows executables. With the latest Wine 9.0 version, running Windows-native apps in Zorin OS 17.1 allows users full capabilities. The inclusion of Bottles, a tool for running Windows software in a sandboxed environment, comes bundled when Windows app support is enabled in Zorin OS, offering a streamlined way to manage apps and games.

In addition to the Core and Pro editions, the Zorin team has introduced Zorin OS Education. This version combines the latest enhancements to Zorin OS with educational software like Logseq, designed to improve learning experiences in pre-schools, primary, and secondary schools.

Zorin OS 17.1 also includes LibreOffice 24.2, offering improved compatibility with Microsoft Office/365 documents, alongside numerous updated apps. The latest version also introduces thumbnails for additional file formats, a new window placement option in Appearance, enhanced security and compatibility, and improved accessibility.
