Shotcut 24.02 update introduces Ambisonic spatial audio and AMD AV1 encoder support

Shotcut, the cross-platform and open source video editor, has rolled out its latest version, 24.02, following the release of version 24.01 just a month ago. The update introduces Ambisonic spatial audio, typically used with 360° video, enhancing Shotcut's support for 360° video workflows.

The addition of the Ambisonic Decoder audio filter provides a cost-effective and straightforward method for recording Ambisonic audio and converting it to 5.1 surround. This update will prove beneficial for users of equipment such as the GoPro MAX or Zoom H3-VR, streamlining the process from recording to editing.

The 5.1 surround sound is already compatible with YouTube on most smart TVs, streaming boxes, and game consoles, and with Windows via headphones, courtesy of Sonic technology.

Shotcut 24.02 also brings AMD AV1 hardware encoder support for Windows and Linux users, automatic vertical scrolling to Timeline when moving a track, among other enhancements, modifications, and bug fixes.

In addition, the new version has upgraded macOS and Windows to Qt version 6.5.3, thereby changing the minimum macOS version to 11 (Big Sur).
