Kdenlive 24.02 ships with Qt6 and KDE Frameworks 6 and brings some nice enhancements
Kdenlive, the powerful cross-platform video editor, has just announced the release of version 24.02. This update brings a significant upgrade to the frameworks, with the adoption of Qt6 and KDE Frameworks 6. Linux users will particularly benefit from improved Wayland support, enhancing the overall user experience. The upgrade also means that Kdenlive now runs natively on DirectX, Metal, and Vulkan for Windows, macOS, and Linux users respectively, replacing the previous reliance on OpenGL and ANGLE. This results in a more efficient and responsive application.
The 24.02 update also introduces changes to Kdenlive's packaging. A dedicated package for Apple Silicon has been introduced, PPA support has been discontinued, and the method for installing the Whisper and Vosk speech-to-text engines has been enhanced.
In terms of functionality, Kdenlive 24.02 now supports multiple subtitles. Users can select subtitles from a drop-down list in the track header, and a subtitle manager dialog has been implemented to facilitate the import and export of subtitles. The Speech Editor has also been improved, with new interpolation modes for keyframes and a new option for setting an interpolation method for scaling operations on rendering.
The update also optimizes RAM usage during the import of clips into the Project Bin and addresses Nvidia encoding and transcoding issues with recent FFmpeg versions. An FFv1 render preset and automatic update checks without an internet connection have also been added.
However, there are some known issues with this release. These include themes and icons not being properly applied in Windows and AppImage, text not being properly displayed in clips in the timeline when using Wayland, and a crash in the Subtitle Manager under macOS. The audio recording feature has also been temporarily removed, pending its migration to Qt6.
Can't wait for kdenlive to have preset to export with amd encoders.
