IntelliJ IDEA 2024.1 Beta released with many enhancements and unbundled AI Assistant
JetBrains has released the 2024.1 Beta version of IntelliJ IDEA, a widely used Java and Kotlin integrated development environment (IDE). The latest release incorporates all major updates introduced during the IntelliJ IDEA 2024.1 Early Access Program. Notable features include support for Java 22 functionalities, complete line code completion, an upgraded Terminal tool window, coverage for conditional statements, sticky lines in the editor, in-editor code reviews, and extended support for GitHub Actions.
The update also provides earlier access to IDE features during project indexing, an enhanced workflow for logs, inline breakpoints for multiple statements, and faster opening for Maven projects. Furthermore, it supports OpenRewrite and WireMock server. The JetBrains team has now shifted focus to refining the features included in v2024.1, indicating that the addition of new features has concluded.
In a significant development, JetBrains has unbundled its AI Assistant from the Beta version of IntelliJ IDEA 2024.1. It is now available as a distinct plugin. This move aims to provide users with more flexibility and control over their preferences and requirements, allowing them to decide the use of AI-powered technologies in their work environments.
