Mozilla rebrands Firefox Monitor, and introduces new Plus plan for personal data removal

Mozilla has rebranded Firefox Monitor as Mozilla Monitor and introduced a new paid subscription service called Mozilla Monitor Plus. The new Plus subscription, priced at $8.99 per month under its yearly plan, works in partnership with Onerep to perform automatic monitoring and scanning of over 190 sites for personal data, allowing users to submit takedown requests for any discovered information, similar to other personal data removal services like DeleteMe, Incogni or Privacy Bee.

Removal requests can take between a week and two weeks to process, and not all information can be guaranteed for removal. If Mozilla cannot remove the data, Plus members are given instructions to attempt self-removal. The basic Mozilla Monitor service offers a free scan and a one-time removal sweep, as well as regular monthly data broker scans. These scans can reveal personal information such as names and addresses, and potentially sensitive data like criminal history or hobbies.

Despite the introduction of the paid service, the standard Mozilla Monitor service remains free. This aligns with Mozilla's tradition of offering privacy-focused services, which include Mozilla VPN and Firefox Relay.
