Google tests AI-driven 'App Highlights' feature for Google Play Store on Android
Google is reportedly using AI to enhance the Google Play Store with a new feature called 'App Highlights', which provides brief summaries of apps, highlighting key features like 'Groups', 'Live streaming' and 'Feed' (particularly it reminds us a bit of what we have right here on AlternativeTo with the highlighted features on some app pages).
The AI-created summaries were initially discovered by code investigator @AssembleDebug on X, and are currently available to a limited group of users through a server-side switch. Google has not yet announced the general availability of this feature or if it will be device-specific.
It's not the first time the company experiments with some AI-based features for the Play Store, as previously there has been a plan to create AI-generated FAQs about apps, aiming to better understand user preferences and app functions. The exact algorithms used to generate these summaries have not been revealed, but they seem to focus on user-relevant details and app reviews.
