Bluesky finally drops invite requirement and opens to anyone, with premium features ahead

Bluesky, the popular alternative to X, Mastodon and Meta's Threads, has finally opened its platform to the public after a long period of invite-only registration. Users interested can go to https://bsky.app/ and start the regular registration process, although you should note that it will be necessary to provide a phone number for an SMS verification code.

The decision to make the platform public was strategically planned after improvements to the platform's infrastructure and other recently implemented features such as RSS feeds and Hide posts.

Bluesky has revealed several upcoming features, such as labeling services for users who want a more tailored feed moderation, enabling organizations and individuals to establish moderation preferences that cater to specific industries or cultural sensitivities. The platform is also working on a "federation" feature, which will let developers and organizations create their own Bluesky server with customized moderation rules. To maintain its growth and offer more to its users, Bluesky plans to roll out premium features for a fee, mirroring those offered by X.
