X launches freemium access to its AI chatbot Grok

X has announced that all users can now access the AI chatbot Grok without needing an X Premium subscription. This update allows users to interact with Grok using up to 10 free text prompts and generate 10 images every two hours. However, image analysis is limited to three images per day unless users opt for a subscription to increase this limit.

The new freemium model for Grok aligns it with other AI services such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, providing basic access to AI tools without a subscription. Previously, Grok was only available to X Premium members, who paid a subscription fee starting at $8 monthly or $84 annually. Premium users will still enjoy higher usage limits and early access to new features as they become available.

By offering a tiered access model, X hopes to attract a wider audience while still providing incentives for users to upgrade to premium subscriptions for enhanced functionality and early feature access.
