COSMIC Desktop Alpha 4 released with region & languages, default apps settings & more

The fourth Alpha release of the COSMIC desktop environment has been announced, bringing new features. This Rust-based environment, designed for Pop!_OS and other Linux distributions, now includes a Region & Language Settings feature for customizing language and date formats, as well as a Default Applications Settings page for configuring default apps.

The COSMIC Media Player, still in development, is set as the default for video and music playback. Additional updates include an enhanced COSMIC Store with a "Details" button for monitoring app installations, full implementation of Display Power Management settings, and an early version of an Accessibility applet with a screenreader toggle.

Variable Refresh Rate support has been added through the cosmic-comp compositor to reduce screen tearing, and app installation management has been streamlined.
