NewPipe 0.27.3 introduces NewPlayer, an independent media framework and other enhancements
NewPipe, the widely-used open source streaming app for Android, has launched version 0.27.3, bringing a host of enhancements and bug fixes. A significant addition is NewPlayer, a standalone media framework intended to serve as NewPipe's future media player framework, which can also be integrated into other applications. This release also incorporates updates from NewPipe Extractor version 0.24.3.
The update introduces support for secondary audio track types and makes playlist descriptions interactive, allowing users to expand or collapse content. For PeerTube users, the app now automatically handles subscribeto.me
instance links. A change in the handling of history items means that selecting “Start playing in the background” will now add only the current item to the play queue, rather than the entire history.
The update also optimizes throttle feed loading to mitigate YouTube's rate limits and addresses numerous bugs for improved performance and stability.
Hello, NewPipe developer here. We haven't introduced NewPlayer in the app yet. Currently the app is in maintenance mode, and we are working on a refactored version on the ‘refactor’ branch (which will use NewPlayer, but does not yet do so).
