Firefox 133 introduces Bounce Tracking Protection, enhanced tab overview, and much more
Mozilla has announced the release of version 133 of Mozilla Firefox, its widely-used free and open source web browser. This update introduces Bounce Tracking Protection, a new feature available in Enhanced Tracking Protection's “Strict” mode, which detects and purges cookies from bounce trackers based on their redirect behavior to enhance user privacy.
Users can now access tabs from other devices through a sidebar opened via the tab overview menu. On Windows, GPU-accelerated Canvas2D is enabled by default, improving performance. The Picture-in-Picture feature has been refined for more reliable auto-opening of relevant videos across various sites.
For developers, Firefox 133 supports the keepalive
option in the Fetch API, allowing HTTP requests to persist post-page navigation or closure. It also supports the Permissions API in Worker Context
, dispatches beforetoggle and toggle events for dialogs, and introduces methods for Base64 and hexadecimal conversions in UInt8Array. Additionally, support for image decoding in the WebCodecs API is included, enhancing image processing capabilities.
On Android, desktop mode browsing is now default for large devices, with settings control available. Clipboard content copied in Private Browsing mode is treated as sensitive, and on Android 13 and later, clipboard notifications are masked for privacy.
The update also includes several security and bug fixes across all platforms, along with other minor enhancements.
