OneDrive's latest update brings a new mobile app design, enhanced search & colored folders

Microsoft has unveiled a series of updates for Microsoft OneDrive, focusing on enhancing the search experience with new filter controls and detailed results to improve file and folder discovery. These updates are set to enhance OneDrive's performance with faster launch times, expected to be fully available to commercial users by the end of 2024. A significant change includes the introduction of colored folders in Windows File Explorer, which will reflect the colors set in the web version of OneDrive. Additionally, document library enhancements are planned by mid-2025, emphasizing performance, reliability, and navigation improvements, along with better custom views and data filtering.

Furthermore, a new mobile app for OneDrive is being launched for iOS and Android, offering improved photo management with easy-to-navigate albums, AI-powered photo search, and media import capabilities from other cloud services like Google Photos. The Android app is currently available, while the iOS version is expected in November. New photo features, such as memory highlights and cloud imports, will be initially available to Microsoft 365 subscribers, with full access by summer 2025.

Microsoft is also integrating Microsoft Copilot into OneDrive for commercial users, providing AI assistants for personalized file management, along with future AI features like personalized views and one-click actions. Additionally, OneDrive will soon offer Microsoft Designer integration for quick photo edits across devices.
