Mastodon 4.3 has launched with new content recommendations and grouped notifications
Mastodon has launched version 4.3, introducing a recommendations carousel on the home feed, which helps users discover new content, and grouped notifications that streamline engagement management, particularly for viral posts. The update also includes advanced filtering options, allowing users to categorize notifications and manage messages from unknown or unsolicited sources.
The platform's design has been significantly improved with a redesigned post composer for easier media management and layout previewing. Users will also notice refreshed icons and a new color palette. Notifications now inform users of moderation actions affecting them, and utility emails have been redesigned for better clarity.
In addition to these updates, Mastodon has focused on improving its onboarding and discovery features. Follow recommendations now offer a mix of general and personalized suggestions, with explanations for each recommendation. A new feature highlights writers' and journalists' fediverse profiles in link previews on Mastodon, and the system for embedding Mastodon posts on other sites has also been updated for better visual presentation. Looking ahead, Mastodon plans to introduce features such as quote posts and server blocklist subscriptions, along with enhancements for displaying long-form content from other fediverse platforms.
