Microsoft disables Cortana app functionality on Windows with a new update and recommends Windows Copilot

Microsoft has started the roll-out of an update for its Cortana application on the Windows via the Microsoft Store. The new version, once installed, will disable all functionalities of the Cortana app. Users launching it will see a message stating, "Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is deprecated."

This action is in line with Microsoft's announcement made in June about the end of support for Cortana. Despite this change, Cortana will continue to be accessible in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms for now.

For those looking for an alternative to Cortana on Windows, Microsoft recommends Windows Copilot: this service is essentially Bing Chat for Windows 11, fully incorporated into the operating system.
