Kobo E-Readers now support Firefox logins for Pocket integration: Here's what you need to know
Kobo e-readers are arguably the most well-known (and versatile) alternative to Amazon Kindle handheld electronic devices, and they have recently announced that they have integrated support for the new Pocket login system. This move comes in response to Mozilla, Pocket's parent company, shifting from Google and Apple logins to Firefox accounts. The integration of Pocket with Kobo e-readers enables users to use Pocket as a read-later service, sending web content directly to their Kobo device. The content is then converted into a reader-friendly format and transformed into an ebook.
At first, Kobo e-readers were unable to make use of Mozilla logins due to the lack of compatibility with the modern web technologies required by Firefox. However, after conversations with Kobo, Mozilla reevaluated their stance, as reported by Good E Reader.
To resolve the compatibility issue, Kobo launched a firmware update supporting Firefox logins, thus ensuring Pocket's compatibility. Since August 15, 2023, Pocket has required users to log in via a Firefox account, as part of Mozilla's broader integration strategy. Users already signed into Pocket on their Kobo e-readers before this date can continue without disruptions. However, those experiencing difficulties logging into their Pocket account should sync their Kobo e-reader to update to the latest software.
A guide has been provided for users who created a Pocket account after August 15, 2023, to help link their account to their Kobo e-reader. Also, users with a pre-existing Pocket account who have logged out must update their account to link it with a Firefox account. By the way, remember that you don't need to have a physical e-reader device to use several of Kobo's services, as you can always use their Kobo Books app for Android and iOS.
