Epic Games and Ahead collaborate to launch open source Windows version of xSTUDIO on GitHub
Epic Games has teamed up with Ahead, the developer behind Cezanne Studio, to introduce an open source Windows version of xSTUDIO on GitHub. Originally created by DNEG and contributed to the Academy Software Foundation as an open source project in 2023, xSTUDIO was first launched for Linux. The Windows 11 port marks a step towards making xSTUDIO a cross-platform tool for the open source community.
xSTUDIO is included in the Academy Software Foundation's Open Review Initiative (ORI), which aims to develop an open source toolkit for professional media playback, review, and approval. The software can be extensively personalized and used as a standalone player or incorporated into different workflows through plugins and Python scripting APIs.
Sebastien Miglio, VP of Product Management and Engineering at Epic Games, highlighted the importance of open standards and open source software in creating the open metaverse. The open source code for xSTUDIO can be found on GitHub and detailed information about its features and capabilities is available at dneg.com/xstudio.
