Desktop environment Budgie 10.8 released with Magpie support and enhanced applets
Budgie, a modern and feature-rich Linux desktop environment originally developed for the Solus Linux distribution, has unveiled a new release series, Budgie 10.8. This update brings several enhancements to the Budgie Menu, introduces StatusNotifier support in the System Tray, and incorporates Magpie v0.x support, among other features.
Magpie, a soft-fork of the GNOME's Mutter window manager, is one of the significant additions to this update. The integration of Magpie v0.x support in Budgie 10.8 represents a notable shift in the desktop environment's underlying technology.
Budgie 10.8 also presents an overhaul of the System Tray applet, an update to the battery indicator in the Status applet, as well as a new Trash applet. Users can now control the Performance / Power profile modes offered by power-profiles-daemon directly from the Status applet's battery indicator.
In addition to these major changes, Budgie 10.8 includes a myriad of smaller improvements and bug fixes. These enhancements serve to complement the significant new features and modifications, rounding out this comprehensive update to the Budgie desktop environment.
