WhatsApp rolls out new feature for recording and sharing instant short video messages in chat
WhatsApp has launched a feature allowing users to record and share short videos in chats. This enhancement to the voice message feature gives users a dynamic, real-time method for responding in chats. Videos can be up to 60 seconds long, and the process for sending one is similar to that of a voice message; users switch to video mode, hold to record, and can use a hands-free option by swiping up to lock the recording.
When opened in a chat, videos automatically play on mute, with the sound activated by tapping the video. Like other WhatsApp communication features, video messages are secured with end-to-end encryption for user privacy and security.
The new feature is currently being rolled out gradually, with all users expected to have access in the upcoming weeks. This follows other recent updates to the app, including automatic call silencing for unknown numbers and the option to edit messages within 15 minutes of sending. WhatsApp is also rumored to be considering the introduction of usernames to further improve its functionality.
