Proton launches encrypted Proton Drive app for Windows, expanding its privacy-centric tools suite
Proton, known for its privacy-centric suite of tools, has announced the launch of a Windows app for Proton Drive, its encrypted cloud storage service. The new app allows effortless syncing of files and photos from a Windows device to the end-to-end encrypted cloud, making them accessible from any device.
The unique end-to-end encryption of Proton Drive is also preserved in the Windows app. This means that no third party, including Proton, can decrypt the synced files, ensuring a high level of privacy and security.
The Proton Drive Windows app offers a smooth process for uploading and downloading files to the cloud and keeping everything synchronized. Once set up, the sync and encryption processes run automatically in the background.
The launch of the Windows app is a significant move towards providing an encrypted alternative to similar services like Google Drive, which have been criticized for jeopardizing user files and privacy.
In addition to the Windows app, Proton has also started beta testing for a macOS desktop app for Proton Drive, indicating its expansion to other platforms.
