Evernote shifts operations to Europe, resulting in layoffs for most of its staff in Chile and the US
Evernote recently announced a major operational shift from Chile and the United States to Europe, where its parent company, Bending Spoons, is based (owners of other popular apps such as Splice, Remini and 30 Day Fitness). According to the company, the move is designed to increase operational efficiency and take advantage of Bending Spoons' strong employer brand in Europe.
This transition resulted in layoffs for most of Evernote's employees based in Chile and the United States. The company communicated these layoffs on July 5, and committed to providing substantial separation packages for those affected. Despite these layoffs, Evernote maintains its ambition and plans to establish a dedicated European team to oversee the Evernote product. This team will have access to the expertise of over 400 employees at Bending Spoons, many of whom have been working full-time on Evernote since the acquisition.
Evernote has a history as one of the most popular note-taking apps; however, it is undeniable that over the years its popularity has waned as many users criticize the lack of development and new features since 2016, in comparison to more powerful alternatives such as Notion, Obsidian, or Craft.
