Artifact App integrates AI-Powered Text-to-Speech feature in collaboration with Speechify

Artifact, the personalized news app developed by Instagram founders, has unveiled a new AI-powered text-to-speech feature developed in partnership with Speechify. The feature allows users to have news articles read aloud in a variety of natural-sounding voices, with options to customize accents and audio speeds.

The feature offers over 30 voices, including accents from the U.K., Australia, Nigeria, and South Africa. Users can also select celebrity voices like Snoop Dogg and Gwyneth Paltrow, or fun options like "Mr. President" (Obama) and "Dwight" (similar to Dwight Schrute from "The Office" 🤓). To use the feature, users click the play button on any article, then select their preferred voice, accent, and speed. The app also supports multitasking, allowing users to browse other news while the article plays in the background. The feature is currently available only on iOS, but the developers say that it will be enabled on Android in the next few days as well.

Since its launch in February 2023, Artifact has been integrating various AI-powered features, such as AI-based headline rewriting to combat clickbait and story summarization in engaging styles. The app's recommendation systems are also AI-driven, delivering personalized content based on user behavior. The app has managed to become an innovative alternative to services like Feedly, applying content strategies and recommendations similar to what is seen on TikTok. However, despite positive reviews, Artifact is still working towards gaining mainstream adoption and currently ranks 124th in the News category on the U.S. App Store. We highly recommend taking a look to get to know one of the most captivating new concepts for news platforms in recent times!
