Unreal Engine 5.2 Introduces new tools and enhancements for real-time 3D creation and Apple silicon Mac support
Unreal Engine 5.2 is now available, expanding its toolset and aiming to be the most advanced real-time 3D creation tool. The release introduces a Procedural Content Generation framework (PCG) for creating large scenes with Unreal Engine assets, both in-editor and in-game. The PCG tools allow defining rules and parameters to efficiently populate large worlds, including linear content projects. Substrate, a new material authoring feature, provides greater control over the look and feel of objects, offering a wider parameter space and expressive multi-lobe framework.
The virtual production toolset receives enhancements, including an iOS app for ICVFX stage operations, enhancing filmmakers' creative power on set. Enhancements to the VCam system allow for more creative decision-making during pre-production, with support for multiple simultaneous Virtual Cameras. Extended nDisplay support for SMPTE 2110 improves ICVFX hardware deployment and is suitable for testing in Unreal Engine 5.2.
Native support for Apple Silicon is added to the Unreal Editor, delivering a better user experience, improved performance, and stability. The release also includes a new ML Deformer sample, showcasing machine learning technology for creating high-fidelity real-time characters with muscle, flesh, and cloth simulation. The ML Deformer sample provides an interactive demo sequence and source assets for repurposing and modification in projects.
Unreal Engine 5.2 can be downloaded from the Epic Games Store launcher, offering existing users access to the new features and upgrades. With its expanded toolset and powerful features, Unreal Engine remains a top choice for creators looking to bring their virtual worlds to life with unparalleled detail and realism.
