Microsoft in talks with Mozilla to make Bing default search engine in Firefox

Microsoft is reportedly in talks with Mozilla to make Microsoft Bing the default search engine in the popular browser, Mozilla Firefox. According to a report by The Information, senior Microsoft executives are keen to seal the deal as soon as possible, as Firefox’s existing contract with Google is up for renewal.

While Microsoft has been promoting its AI-powered Bing search engine, recent data suggests that it has not yet made a significant dent in Google’s dominance of the search market. However, if the deal with Mozilla goes ahead, even a modest increase in market share could be lucrative for Microsoft and Mozilla alike.

The move would be a blow to Google, which has enjoyed a lucrative partnership with Firefox since 2006. Mozilla has previously made it clear that it is open to work with other search engines, stating that it wants to ensure that search in Firefox gives users access to the best and most relevant content.

Neither Microsoft nor Mozilla has commented on the rumors, but if the deal does go ahead, it could be a significant boost for Bing’s market share and a lucrative new revenue stream for both Microsoft and Mozilla.

Why? Microsoft just wants to force everyone to use their search engine, Bing. Isn't Firefox for privacy? Isn't that the biggest reason people like me switch to Firefox? Well, that is what Microsoft isn't. They're also an ad company. I'll seriously think of deleting Firefox if they do this move.

Why don't they change it to duckduckgo? If firefox accepts then Microsoft will put tons of ads saying "switch to edge" on Bing. Some people will move to edge. That's only to get more money.
