Microsoft consolidates all Microsoft 365 Apps and Services under new domain: cloud.microsoft

Microsoft has announced that it will be consolidating all of its Microsoft 365 apps and services under a new domain name: cloud.microsoft. This change will simplify the user experience by reducing sign-in prompts, redirects, and delays when navigating across apps, making it more seamless and intuitive for users. For administrators, it will also make it easier to manage the security of their tenant, as they will no longer need to create allow-lists for each individual app.

This consolidation will lay the groundwork for tighter integration across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, improving performance and cross-app experiences. Microsoft chose "cloud" as the domain name because it is a durable, extensible, and neutral term that can be used to cover the many online services that the company will eventually offer under this domain. While only "net-new services" will use the cloud.microsoft domain for now, it will eventually be adapted for other online services.

Customers will not need to make any changes to their Microsoft 365 services themselves in most cases, as Microsoft will handle the transition seamlessly. If any changes are required, Microsoft will give customers at least 30 days' notice so that they can take the necessary actions. The standard Microsoft.com domain will still be used by the company for non-product experiences such as marketing, support, and e-commerce.
