Mobilizon v4 allows you to import and synchronize events from Facebook and Meetup

Five years after its initial launch, and five months after its 3.1 release, Mobilizon, a free federated alternative to Facebook groups and events, has reached a significant milestone with the release of version 4, introducing several new features and enhancements.

With Mobilizon, event organizers now have the ability to send private announcements to attendees, a feature that has been in high demand. The update allows group or event administrators and moderators to directly contact people registered in a group or event. This feature provides the option to write to all group members or select subgroups, such as those who have confirmed their attendance.

A new conversation system is also introduced in Mobilizon v4, enabling users to contact a group or specific individuals and engage in live chats. For users with a Mastodon account, the Fediverse allows for the use of this conversation feature to send private messages from Mastodon, with the recipient able to reply from Mobilizon.

One of the most anticipated features of Mobilizon v4 is the ability to import and synchronize events from other platforms like Facebook and Meetup. However, it's not fully functional yet, and the Mobilizon team advises users to use this feature with “a great deal of reserve and caution”.

Mobilizon v4 also brings improved compatibility for tracking other federated event instances, better formatting of event descriptions when exporting events and in ICS feeds, along with other enhancements and bug fixes.
