EndeavourOS 'Galileo' released as a major update, ditches Xfce for KDE Plasma
EndeavourOS, an Arch-based distro known for providing an Arch experience without the manual installation hassle, has launched a new major version named Galileo, introducing considerable changes.
In a significant shift, KDE Plasma has replaced Xfce as the Live environment and on the offline install option. For those opting for online installation, Xfce remains an available choice.
The new release also sees the removal of community editions (Sway, Qtile, BSPWM, Openbox, and Worm) as installation options. Despite this, these editions can still be manually installed via a designated GitHub page.
Another notable change in Galileo version is the enabling of Local Hostname Resolution on all new installations. Additionally, when LUKS encryption with systemd-boot is chosen, the system will be installed with a more robust LUKS2 encryption using argon2id. The ability to install more than one Desktop Environment (DE) during installation has also been removed.
Beyond these significant changes, EndeavourOS Galileo also introduces a host of other new features, enhancements, new languages, app updates, and bug fixes.
