Amazon launches 'Q', an AI Chatbot for enterprises, built on AWS

Amazon has finally announced its major commitment to AI chatbots and has launched Amazon Q, designed for enterprise use. The chatbot is built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and uses generative AI to improve various work processes such as information search and application development.

Unlike consumer-focused chatbots from OpenAI like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini, Amazon Q is exclusively for enterprises (at least for now) and competes with products like ChatGPT Enterprise, Copilot for Microsoft 365 Bussiness, and to.net/software/google-duet-ai/about/. It integrates seamlessly with AWS, internal data systems, and various business applications. Amazon aims to leverage its prowess in cloud computing while focusing on security and privacy features that are reportedly deficient in competitor products.

Amazon Q allows employees to ask questions, access information from different databases, summarize reports, write articles, and perform a variety of tasks within their company's content repositories. With over 40 built-in connectors to popular enterprise systems, Q generates responses based on user access permissions. It operates on Amazon's Bedrock developer platform, accessing multiple Large Language Models (LLMs). Q can be accessed via the AWS Management Console, a developer Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and popular chat apps like Slack. It is priced at $20 per user per month, and it is currently available in preview only in the United States.
