Slack finally discontinues X/Twitter integration for good due to API changes

Slack, the widely used collaboration platform, has discontinued its integration with X (formerly Twitter), citing recent changes to X's API as the reason. Slack has declared that these modifications to the API have undermined the functionality of the integration, leading to its retirement.

On Slack's “feature retirements” page, the company has clarified, “The Twitter app for Slack is no longer available due to upstream API limitations. Going forward, links to posts from X (formerly known as Tweets) will continue to unfurl if permitted by your Slack settings.”

This move by Slack follows a trend of services and platforms severing ties with the social media site, X, due to its API alterations. Moreover, Slack's decision to retire the integration does not come as a surprise. The platform seems to be swiftly distancing itself from X. Just last week it announced it was retiring the @SlackStatus account on X, which is where it previously shared updates about issues and outages regarding the platform.
