CCleaner faces data breach linked to MOVEit incident, affecting millions of customers.
CCleaner has reportedly experienced a data breach linked to the MOVEit data theft incident, leading to the loss of sensitive client data such as names, contact details, and purchase information. The company's parent organization, Gen Digital, has informed its customers about the breach and highlighted the severity of the stolen data.
The breach is tied to the MOVEit managed file transfer incident, which is believed to be connected to Russia-affiliated groups and exposed vulnerabilities in May 2023, impacting thousands of businesses. While initial estimates suggested around 120 businesses were affected, later data showed over 2,000 victims and more than 65 million individuals were compromised.
CCleaner has not revealed the exact number of affected users, but Gen Digital confirms less than two percent of its 65 million paid customers were impacted.
