Texture is shutting down in the wake of Apple News+, with no Android alternative provided
Texture, the Apple-owned magazine aggregator, is shutting down only a year after being acquired by the tech giant.
In the wake of the Apple News subscription service and its 300 available magazines. this move is hardly surprising. That said, this is a huge blow for Texture users on Android and Amazon Fire devices, as Apple is not providing a successor service or alternative. Apple News+ is currently only available on devices running iOS and macOS.
Texture will shut down on May 28th. As a support article on Texture's website states in response to the question "I use Texture on an Android device. Can I use Apple News+ on my Android device?":
"Apple News+ is available only on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 12.2 or later and Mac computers with macOS 10.14.4 or later.
To continue reading, you’ll need a compatible Apple device."
