Instagram enabling users to download their data
Instagram will soon be receiving a tool to enable its millions of users to download the content they share on the site without the need of external apps.
A spokseperson for the image-focused social network stated to TechCrunch that it is currently developing a "data portability tool" for users. This tool will enable users to download content they've posted on Instagram, including messages, photos, and videos.
Depending on how extensive the functionality proves to be, this data portability tool may render third party Instagram downloading tools such as
4K Stogram,
InstagramSaver, and
InstaPort obsolete by allowing users to save this content from directly within Instagram. This will aid users in ensuring that their login credentials are secure by not sharing them with third party developers that may or may not respect the privacy of their data.
It is currently unknown whether or not the data portability tool will support the download of uncompressed content or if some sort of compression solution will be implemented for users with bandwidth caps, low storage space, or slower Internet service speeds.
