mistaecko,
Glad to be the first commenter :) I just used it today, and was looking for others' experience, this page came up first (probably since you just added it).
To the point, though, I don't think it competes with XPMode + VirtualPC - they simply give you a blank XP, no transfer at all. I bought it for the transfer specifically, and i don't care whether its virtualization or not. So I think the alternatives should be transfer software. What do you think?

Hehe, fast response, I just added the app 20 minutes ago ;)

But good to hear actual user feedback (always hoping it is genuine).

And yes, good (and actual existing) user support is surely worth a view bucks.

I was a bit confused because I couldn't find information on the company, the domain is registered via a 3rd party to hide/protect the identity of the company. Usually not a good sign.

I also have to point out that Zinstall falls into the category of virtualization software - it is not simply transferring files and settings, but the whole OS including applications into a virtual disk image. Hence it is competing with Microsoft's XPMode, VMLite XPMode, etc. - and not so much with Windows Easy Transfer or PCmover in terms of technology.

My experience was very positive. I used Zinstall XP7. Got all my stuff moved successfully. The best part of the package for me that you get human support people answering the phone, without battling endless automatic voice systems.

I am disappointed with the Zinstall XP product. While it created the XP environment and ported everything, I am not able to print from the VM. I followed the procedures provided in the Zinstall XP user’s guide with no success. Support from Zinstall is non existent. The company will not answer any basic questions. It requires purchase of an additional $100 of support. I am finding that if I want to print, I have to re-install the programs in Windows 7. This defeats the purpose of the Zinstall XP VM. The company is aware of these issues but doesn’t disclose them when they sell you the product. They sell the product by promising that “everything will work just as before”. This is not true if you can’t print.
When I called them to ask them questions, an answering machine asked me to leave a message. No one ever called me back. I wrote emails to technical support and got responses from their sales department telling me that drivers are not supported and that they would provide support for an additional $100. Their advertisement of their product is very misleading and I feel that I did not receive what I thought I was purchasing.

Zinstall offers various products in the Zinstall line, some with rather limited feature set IMHO - e.g. Zinstall HDD edition which allows for migration to a larger hard-drive or Zinstall XP7 Basic which only moves files and no settings.
Pricing seems a bit high considering that there are solutions available for free. However, I haven't tried Zinstall and it might very well be that for an inexperienced user the investment is actually worth it.
