By its conception, Zimbra is a security risk: all processes run with the "zimbra" system user. The administration Web UI is run by the same java process that provide the Webmail (a Java app hosted by Tomcat), on a different port. All configuration files are owned by the "zimbra" user. If the Web UI is breached, all Zimbra config can be edited.
The configuration is complex, proprietary and unclear. The learning curve is steep, and stay steep even with a good knowledge of used open source software (postfix, sldapd, tomcat, amavis, ...).
Zimbra doesn't follow semantic versioning. Path numbering doesn't reflect breaking changes. Some patches may break the working configuration.
If a webmail provides the same functionalities as Zimbra without its administration Web UI, choose this webmail. Zimbra ease of administration is a false promise that creates more problems than it solves.
Zimbra team does good work, but from the start, its architecture is the issue. In 15 years, this hasn't changed.
It looks to be expensive as no price is listed. You must submit a request for a quote. Didn't look any further into Zimbra.
I have to say this. Pricing is more then reasonable. I am currently testing Zimbra and some alternatives and i must say Zimbra is by far the cheapest with all functions included.
