What is Yewtube?

Yewtube is a software platform based on mps-youtube and mps, terminal-based programs for searching, streaming, and downloading music. It works with Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X and uses YouTube as its main content source. It can play and download both video and audio through the pafy library.

The latest version of Yewtube has significant updates. It no longer needs a YouTube API Key and allows audio to run in VLC without a graphical interface. It retains features from mps-youtube such as searching and playing audio/video from YouTube, searching album tracks by title, importing YouTube playlists, creating and saving local playlists, downloading audio/video, converting to mp3 & other formats (requires ffmpeg or avconv), and viewing video comments. It works with Python 3.x and requires MPlayer icon MPlayer , MPV icon MPV or VLC Media Player icon VLC Media Player .
