This is one of my favorite applications for cleaning up duplicates. It's fast, it has native GUI/widgets, which is a big pro for these who hate GTK or Java GUI. For me the main problem is lack of presets. Every time I want to search for dupes, I need to set all settings. Setting directory to look in is the worse, because we can't just paste the name - we have to browse the tree, so if it's n-th subdirectory, it will take some time. Somehow we can use copy-paste to exclude directory. I tried to run it with directory as parameter, but it didn't work.
Of course this application checks only real duplicates, with bit-to-bit comparison. If you want to find similar photos or photos with different metadata, it's not a tool for you.
I think one of the most important functions is not well described, so let me explain. If you'd delete file manually, you need to use context menu (there's no toolbar at all, everything action is triggered from context menu), click on "refresh list" (this way deleted files will disappear) and then "remove orphan files". If you added new files to directory, "refresh list" won't help. You need to do searching again. In case if you want to leave some duplicated - bad news. There's no persistent ignore list, so each time we will have to remove them from list manually.
One must remember there are virtually no safeguards, so I wouldn't recommend it for newbies. For example symbolic links are shown as separate files, so we might to delete more that we really want. Each group of duplicates has random background (except the group number), so it may happen that two groups near each other will have almost exact colors. For example, if we would encounter such situation and we would have two groups: [AB] and [CD] and we will mark A, B and C for deletion, the tool won't hint us that we are removing all files from group (AB).
Other thing that could make it harder to newbies is two ways of deleting files: delete checked files and delete selected. In IT these terms are clear, but in general language they are not. Checked files are ones with [?] before the file name, selected are the ones where the whole row is selected.
One the other side, for people who are familar with standard use of widgets - if we select directory for checking, it will always show up as "half checked" (check mark on the gray background). In my opinion that should be strictly reserved for directories with some subdirectories unchecked.
