What are the best Xming alternatives?

Xming is described as 'X Window System Server for Microsoft Windows®. It is fully featured, lean, fast, simple to install and because it is standalone native Windows, easily made portable (not needing a machine-specific installation or access to the Windows registry)' and is an app in the os & utilities category. There are nine alternatives to Xming for Windows and Linux. The best alternative is MobaXterm, which is free. Other great apps like Xming are VcXsrv, X410, NetSarang Xmanager and X-Win32.

Xming is mainly a Terminal Emulator but alternatives to it may also be SSH Clients. Filter by these if you want a narrower list of alternatives or looking for a specific functionality of Xming.

      MobaXterm vs Xming opinions
This alternative is disputed. MobaXterm is still a legitimate alternative to Xming, but it might have issues that some users think are important.
MobaXterm is a collection of functions required to accesas Unix based systens in one app. These include Terminal Access, File Transfer, and X11. The great advantage is, it works out-of-the-box and you don't need to have any other software.

Xwing is an X Windows system, MobaXterm is a terminal app. Very very different purposes and functionality.

Erquint Not an X server. That's the sole functionality that Xming is carrying. There is no crossover between these two programs whatsoever.

Windows X-server based on the xorg git sources (like xming or cygwin's xwin), but compiled with Visual C++ 2010. Source code can also be compiled with VS2008, VS2008 Express Edition and VS2010 Express Edition.
      VcXsrv vs Xming opinions
Almost everyone thinks VcXsrv is a great alternative to Xming.
Where Xming opens simply (I could not get it to NOT open at startup), VcXsrv opens a window where you can control certain things, such as open start up, open GNU in another window, and small things like that.

Because it's free and regularly updated. The free version of Xming hasn't been updated for a long time.
