XF Model Source helps you choose an AI model for a specific job. AI models are specialized, so the best model for writing product descriptions is rarely the best one for pulling data off invoices. Instead of trusting "best model ever" headlines, XFMS provides an alternative to other model selection platforms, including Open Router's own. You describe your job in plain words and Model Source works out what that job really needs through proprietary discovery.
It then sorts more than 450 models against more than 200 ways models differ, such as cost, speed, context size, tool use and language support. Models that can't do the job are removed, and the rest are ranked with the reason for each position.
When you want proof, it tests the top models on your own work, using your own OpenRouter key, and shows which ones actually pass. It also turns the result into a monthly cost at your volume. In one invoice example, the winning model cost about two cents a month, while the automatic router cost about nine cents and ranked fourth of four that passed.
Discovery and ranking are free. Model Source works inside Claude, Cursor, Codex and other tools that support MCP, an open standard for connecting tools to AI assistants. Paid XF Model Watch re-tests your job on a schedule and tells you when a model gets worse, changes price, or a better one appears.
Providers cannot pay to be ranked.
