I've tried this one and Ultimate Windows Tweaker, and I just found this one a lot easier to use. It's also really nice how under nearly every screen there's a link that reads "See in detail how this tweak works" so you can get an understanding of what the heck it even is.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Winaero Tweaker's "Reset to Defaults" on Windows 11 is a Registry Trap that Breaks Accessibility Scaling and Forces System Restore.

To the Dev of Winaero Tweaker (who apparently decided to censor my comment on his website) and to anyone thinking of using it):

I'm writing to report a catastrophic architectural failure in the "Advanced Appearance" module that corrupts Windows 11 user profiles. Because this is the first time I've audited this app, I don't know if the failure is unique to the latest version; I suspect it's not. The software operates on the negligent assumption that Windows 11 handles font scaling like Windows 7. It doesn't. The "Reset" function is a trap that triggers a cascade of failures.

First, the UI is deceptive. In the "Advanced Appearance" module, I experimentally clicked "Reset this page to defaults" just to see what would happen. I saw the sample text (in the sample-text box) shrink immediately, so I checked the "Change font" dialog to see what had happened. There, I saw that the value had shifted from my native 12pt Segoe UI to your legacy 9pt value. Crucially, I never (not ever) clicked the "Apply changes" button (why would I?—I had no desire to keep the tiny font).

I continued my audit by repeating this test for Icons, Menus, and Message Fonts, and then closed the app completely, assuming (reasonably) these were uncommitted previews and everything would revert on reopening the app. But that's not what happened. I discovered the "Reset" button is wired to execute immediate, persistent registry writes that bypass the user's explicit confirmation (the "Apply" button). That's a fundamental violation of safe UX design—and of user trust.

Second, the data is toxic. Instead of clearing the registry to allow Windows 11 to handle dynamic scaling (the native behavior), the app injected hardcoded, legacy binary garbage (static 9pt Segoe UI) into Registry Keys. This creates a hard conflict with the OS's native Accessibility subsystem, overriding the "Text Size" scaling and rendering the UI illegible on high-DPI displays.

Third, the corruption is deep. When I attempted to manually repair the damage by deleting the six binary values that were injected (CaptionFont, IconFont, etc.), it didn't work. While the size reverted, the font face broke completely, forcing a system-wide fallback to Arial. This proves the "Reset" doesn't just write metrics; it injects hidden, unlogged dependencies—likely in FontSubstitutes—that survive standard cleanup.

Because this software destroyed the audit trail and buried the corruption, I was forced to execute a full System Restore to recover my OS. If the Dev can't update his code to recognize that modern Windows relies on null keys for scaling—and if he can't implement a basic "Commit" gate for destructive actions—he should remove the feature. Right now, it's just a path to system corruption.

Because of all this, I didn't have a chance (fortunately) to test most of the other modules. I suspect they too are laced with landmines. I stopped looking into them because I lost trust in this entire app. The incompetent design, no matter how polished, user-friendly, and safe it appears on the surface, didn't just break a feature; it lost a user permanently. The Dev should fix his definitions or deprecate the module.

No more faffing about in powershell with scripts, a truly all-in-one solution to undo the malice Microsoft implements. Really like the appearance and theme options. The Win7 volume mixer is so much better than 10, it's staggering. The universal drag and drop options also resolved some weirdness with Qttabbar, a file explorer program.

The one problem I have encountered is forcing Aero theme doesn't change font colors making the clock and file explorer address bar hard to read.

Windows seems to give users less access to quality of life settings with every update. Luckily Winaero Tweaker changes that.

Some of my personal favorite tweaks offered are:

  • Restoring auto-logins
  • Chaning OEM & registration information
  • Adding/removing libraries from File Explorer
  • Disable Windows updates
  • Hide paes in Settings
  • Adding a custom start up message
  • Use a custom start up sound
  • Kill all non-responding applications
  • Disable Microsoft's telemetry
  • Remove " - Shortcut" from created shortcuts

Great for making elevated rights shortcuts (listed under Shortcuts). Also, found about 60% of the Speed Tweaks that are Premium on BootRacer

This app is just awesome. I used to do all these tweaks myself manually via registry and group policies. Love it.
