Whistlestop

Whistlestop is an app that notices interesting places ahead and tells you the stories behind them. Landmarks, natural features, historical landmarks, and local legends, narrated on the road. It's like having a tour guide in your back seat. Great for road trippers, history junkies, nature lovers, and curious types.

Tap "Start Tour" and Whistlestop starts looking for places around you as you drive. When it notices something interesting, it will start telling you the story automatically. Each story is about 30-45 seconds long, and will give you a general overview or history of the location. There are multiple voices to choose from, and you can customize what kind of stories you are most interested in, so you hear about those first.

It works beautifully in the background with your music, podcasts, and navigation apps. When a story starts, music volume lowers, podcasts are paused, and all of it returns the second the story ends. All navigation announcements take precedent over stories, so you don't miss a critical turn.

During a story, you'll see its location card automatically appear. You can view the story source, driving directions, skip it, or save the place to your favorites so you can reference later.

You may hear an interesting fact but forget a detail later. Whistlesto has a travel log with a list of all the places you've heard about along you drive. This travel log stays private and is stored only on your device. You can clear it any time.
