What is Weir?

Weir is a Voicemeeter-style audio mixer for Linux, built on PipeWire. It puts the sound on your computer on a mixing desk: each microphone and application gets a strip with a fader, and each output gets a bus, whether that is your headphones, your speakers, or a virtual microphone that Discord, OBS or a browser can record from. A row of buttons beside every fader decides which outputs hear which strip.

Each virtual strip shows up as a playback device of its own, such as "Music (Weir)", so applications can be sent to it from their sound settings or from Weir's Apps menu. Rules can put an application on the right strip every time it starts.

Features:

  • As many strips and buses as you need
  • A separate mix for every output: a strip can be louder in your headphones than on your stream
  • Voice effects built in: noise suppression, noise gate, compressor and a 16-band equalizer with a live analyzer
  • Ducking, which turns the music down while you talk, and a safety limiter on every output
  • External effects: send a strip or bus through another program, such as Carla or EasyEffects, and back
  • Surround up to 7.1, with standard downmixing and upmixing
  • Scenes and setups to save your sound and your layout, and undo for every change
  • weirctl, a command-line tool, and a documented protocol for scripts, hotkeys and Stream Deck plugins
  • Follows your light or dark theme and runs in the system tray

All the mixing happens in a single PipeWire node, adding nothing to PipeWire's own latency. Weir is free and open source under the MIT license, with ready-made packages for Fedora, Nobara, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, Debian and Arch-based systems.
