VideoSpec is a free AppleScript studio App (Xcode 3.0 on Leopard) making use of MediaInfo CLI, MPlayer, FFmpeg, qt_tools and AtomicParsley binaries to display detailed informations on video files. Compatibility of analyzed media file with QuickTime Player v.7.6.
The program is no longer developed. Last version, v.0.9.8, released in 2014, can be still downloaded from the official website

What is VideoSpec?
VideoSpec is a free AppleScript studio App (Xcode 3.0 on Leopard) making use of MediaInfo CLI, MPlayer, FFmpeg, qt_tools and AtomicParsley binaries to display detailed informations on video files. Compatibility of analyzed media file with QuickTime Player v.7.6.x is provided with indication on the installation status of the displayed QuickTime Component and its download link as well as compatibility with iPod/iPhone/iPad/AppleTV. Suggestion on alternate movie player to QuickTime Player is proposed and preview of video files is available using mplayer binary tool. Furthermore, integration of Bitrate Pro adds calculation capacity with multimedia files.
The current version (v.0.8.7a) is Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) and Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) compatible. It is Mac Intel only compatible.
The last version compatible with G4-G5 PowerPC and Intel Mac (Universal Binary) is the version 0.8.2.
A specific version is available for G3 PowerPC. The last Tiger-compatible version is available here.
This version is localized in english and french.
