It works very well out of the box on every distro I've tried. A very good productivity tool for any Linux user.
On Windows, I set up a popup menu system using Stileto (later PowerPro) on Windows 2000, and ran that until incompatibilities with Windows 7 forced me to find a new system. I switched to AutoHotKey, and happily ran that for years.
Switching to Linux Mint, I wanted something similar. I tried Albert, and Cerebro. Both of those worked, but required more configuration, and/or were slower. ULauncher worked out of the box with base functionality. Over time I slowly added a few extensions and shortcuts for frequently used commands, and that was it.
While I still use the 'Menu' applet to select apps by category, most frequently used applications, and my own scripts and tools, are just and two letters followed by the key away.
It's fast, lightweight, works out of the box, and has had no compatability issues with the desktop or any application.
I used about one month. It is useful for Linux users. But if we want to install some extensions probably not working... We need OS developers :)
It is smooth sailing, works well and has a repository of extensions to expand the functionality. It's a gem that has not yet been discovered by most people.
This is awesome. However, at a certain point, you can only optimize so much and Gnome 4 is so well built with the newest Ubuntu and Fedora releases. Depending on exact needs, this can save a bunch of time and it is definitely an awesome tool, just don't sink more time into the tool than you would be productive.
I use Ulauncher on all my Linux machines and like it so much I wish it was ported for Mac!
Ulauncher is a fast, easy app launcher for Linux. It's a good replacement for Spotlight for Linux users
