What is Tungsten Edge?
Tungsten Edge is an open-source Dock replacement for macOS that organizes by window instead of by app. Every open window gets its own labeled card at the bottom of the screen, so you can switch straight to the window you want with a single click — no Mission Control, no cycling through stacked windows.
Unlike a plain Windows-style taskbar, single-window apps stay collapsed as compact icons, so the strip never gets cluttered. Multi-window apps — four Finder folders, several browser windows — expand into individual labeled cards. The result combines the compactness of the macOS Dock with the per-window clarity of a Windows taskbar.
Other features: a drawer for stashing rarely used apps, a shelf for temporarily holding files, persistent entries with unread badges for messaging apps (WeChat, Feishu, …), smart native-tab merging (Ghostty, Finder), drag to reorder anything, edge auto-hide with a configurable wake delay, multi-display follow, and a frosted-glass look. Interface in English and Simplified Chinese.
Written in native Swift (not Electron), signed and notarized by Apple, universal binary for Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 12 or later. Requires the Accessibility permission to read and manage windows. Currently free; a one-time purchase (no subscription) is planned, and founding users who confirm their email before launch keep it free forever.
